Phase 1 Sectors (The Completely Cleared Villages)For the iconic initial sectors (Sectors 1 to 30), the government completely acquired both the farmlands and the abadi (residential houses). The original inhabitants were relocated, leaving no physical trace of the old settlements:
- Rurki Village → Replaced entirely by Sector 17 (The iconic Plaza, Neelam Cinema, and Central Business District).
- Shahzadpur Village → Replaced by Sector 24.
- Bajwara Village → Replaced by Sector 22, Sector 23, and Sector 35. Bajwara was famous for its thriving community of blacksmiths before being cleared.
- Kanjimajra & Kalibar Villages → Replaced by the sprawling campus of Panjab University (Sector 14).
- Bhangimajra & Nagla Villages → Cleared out to make room for the Capitol Complex (Sector 1) and the high-profile government zones.
- Pind Madhupur → Became part of the foundational layout for the early residential sectors.
Phase 2 & 3 Sectors (The "Urban Villages")As the city expanded downward in the 1960s and 70s, the planners changed their strategy. They acquired the agricultural fields to build the sectors, but left the residential village cores intact. This is why dense, old-world villages sit inside modern sectors:
- Burail Village → Swallowed by Sector 45. The village successfully resisted full displacement and operates as a massive local market hub today.
- Attawa, Badheri, and Buterla Villages → Absorbed directly into Sector 42.
- Kajheri Village → Absorbed into Sector 52.
- Palsora Village → Absorbed into Sector 55.
